Phantom Brigade is a tactical mech RPG about to hit 1.0 after years of Epic early access. Higher accuracy gives you a larger pool of actions to select from, each with their own effects like granting you bonus dice next turn or adding some extra defense to block an incoming attack. Each turn, you and your opponent draw from a shared pool of dice to temporarily boost your stats - attack, defense, accuracy, and speed. Some edges have been sanded down - you are no longer permanently debuffed after taking damage, for example - but it's still the same great core concept. Here's my running list of favorites:ĭungeons of Aether is a dice-based roguelike that adapts the great game jam title Malleus Goblinficarium into the Rivals of Aether universe. I'm up to a flat 100 demos tried now, total, including demos I've played before or that went live early. Radio the Universe, a decade-old Kickstarter project that I vaguely remember existing and am surprised still does. Tron: Identity, a Tron visual novel by Bithell Games of John Wick Hex, Thomas Was Alone, and the Subsurface/Quarantine Circular visual novels. Troubleshooting, an FPS inside of a computer where you shoot (click) files and can use right-click special powers like copy/paste/delete, etc. Inkbound, a co-op turn-based roguelike from the developers of Monster Train. Planet of Lana, a cinematic platformer that Xbox has previously promoted as a Game Pass release.īleak Sword DX, a Devolver-published action game that's apparently been one of the best Apple Arcade offerings around for the past few years. Some of the most notable participants this time around:ĭarkest Dungeon II, which is set to reach 1.0 and release on Steam very soon. Let's all help the cream rise to the top by sharing our favorites! The first Steam Next Fest of 2023 is upon us from now until February 13, which means we have once again been inundated with way too many demos to play, keep track of, or even just look at.
